PI: Sessions: Drum and Gong Day
June 17, 2017 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Project Identity: Sessions at the Downtown Barn in Liberty is a FREE program for teens to come together to explore their interest and do something positive.
A fun day of drumming and gong work with musician and performer Marc Switko! Teens will learn about the history of percussion, gain hands-on experience with a variety of drums, and create a group percussion piece. A highlight of the day will be learning about and playing a gong. A soothing “gong bath” of vibrational sound will close the workshop.
Marc Switko became fascinated with pop culture as a child, studying music, writing, comic books and skateboarding. Before attending Cornell University to study nutritional sciences he was already performing and writing in numerous rock and roll bands at dive bars throughout Sullivan and Ulster counties.
He then moved to Albany NY and began publishing reviews as the book critic for a successful literary magazine called The Albany Review under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Theodore Bouloukos II. It was here he got his chops as a professional writer. The Review eventually folded and Switko left for New York City. There he began writing professionally for the Art publications of Far East under the editorial tutelage of Dian Hanson, now editor for art book publisher Taschen, based in Cologne, Germany.
Downtown Barn is located at 14 Darbee Lane, Liberty, NY 12754.
