Mom’s Meatloaf Movie Mondays: Grey Gardens (1975)
March 19, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Grey Gardens (1975), considered one of the most culturally significant documentaries of American cinema, was created by brothers Albert & David Maysles. The film depicts the everyday lives of two eccentric, reclusive (and formerly upper class women of high society) who ended up living in poverty in a derelict and crumbling mansion in a wealthy neighborhood in the Hamptons. Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale, known as “Big Edie,” and her daughter known as “Little Edie,” were the aunt and the first cousin of former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The two women lived together at the decaying Grey Gardens estate for decades in increasing squalor and isolation . . . along with their cats and raccoons.
