Invasive Plant Removal Work Party in Hawley
August 23, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
An invasive and fast-growing plant, known as mile-a-minute weed (Persicaria perfoliata), has been discovered in our region. This annual vine can grow up to six inches a day, quickly smothering other native plants and even ascending into the tree canopy where it becomes very dense.
The plant can be controlled early by hand-pulling. The Delaware Highlands Conservancy, together with the Downtown Hawley Partnership, is hosting a work day to remove mile-a-minute weed that is currently growing in Hawley’s popular Riverside Trail on Tuesday, August 23rd from 9am-12pm.
If you would like to participate in the work day, please register by contacting Jason Zarnowski at the Conservancy at jason@delawarehighlands.org or 570-226-3164 x. 6. Please bring your own work gloves, and lunch will be provided.
