SUMMARY:Mom's Meatloaf Movie Mondays: Erin Brockovich (2000)
DESCRIPTION:Starring Julia Roberts\, this popular film is based on the true ‘David and Goliath’ story of Erin Brockovich who fought against the energy corporation Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E)\, and won. Down-on-her-luck\, twice-divorced\, unemployed single mother of three children\, Erin becomes a lowly clerk in a tiny law firm where she independently starts looking into a case involving polluted groundwater in a small California town and uncovers one of the biggest environmental crimes in history. This defiant and crusading legal assistant helped bring a giant utility company to its knees and a $333 million award to the town’s residents. \nRoberts won the Academy Award\, BAFTA\, Golden Globe Award\, and Screen Actors Guild Award for this role. Directed by Steven Soderbergh\, this 2000 film also stars Albert Finney and Aaron Eckhardt.

SUMMARY:Film Screening - Jane
DESCRIPTION:The life and work of the renowned primatology scientist\, Jane Goodall\, especially on her research about chimpanzees. \n“As an official U.N. Messenger of Peace\, optimism is literally in her job title. But there’s something comforting in knowing that even such a shining example of persistence and courage has sometimes fallen into despair. Like the rest of us\, she has had to find her way back to the sun. With Brett Morgen’s riveting documentary\, Jane\, we have a raw and intimate glimpse at how the lady became a legend and symbol of aspiration — mostly by trying and failing and trying again.” –April Wolfe\, Miami New Times \nCelebrate Earth Day with the Hurelyville Arts Centre and cosponsor\, the Outside Institute.

SUMMARY:Invasive Plants: from the garden to the wild!
DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t love a beautiful garden full of exotic and low-maintenance plants? Unfortunately\, some of our garden (and non-garden) plants have escaped and adapted to life in the wild. These invasive species are a serious issue affecting not only the ecology of our nature areas\, but human health and local economies too. \nLearn about some of the species that keep land managers awake at night and ways that you can help stop the spread of invasives in our area. \nPresented by Eric Stone\, Invasives Program Educator for the NY-NJ Trail Conference. This is an indoor presentation. No registration required. $5 suggested donation.

SUMMARY:Trail Maintenance Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how the trails stay open and passable? Where do those colored marks on the trees come from? Take this workshop to find out! \nTrail Maintenance is clearing\, cleaning\, and blazing. Trail maintainers use small hand tools to clip and cut brush out of the trail\, remove debris from drainage structures\, and paint or hang the markers used for route finding also known as blazes. \nThis course helps you gain or brush up on the skills necessary to a Trail Conference Trail Maintainer Volunteer. Skills include how to clip trail corridors\, clean drainage structures\, proper blazing techniques\, and reporting trail conditions. \nThere will be a field component of this course\, so be sure you wear your sturdy hiking boots and work gloves if you have them!
